Professional Ethics Animation

Ethics - Artifact 1

The animation in this artifact lacks sophistication but illustrates a common ethical challenge in my former job as an IT administrator at a small charter school. Greater autonomy is a wonderful feature of charter schools but that autonomy should not be used to compromise ethical standards or violate school policy. In this animation, which was created using Powtoon, I examine how the temptation to violate technology purchasing policies for friends at work can quickly lead to ethics violations.

The Four S’s of Netiquette - Website

Ethics - Artifact 2

This artifact is one of the first websites I developed in EDTECH 502 which should be clear by its brevity and simplicity. The content is based on a simple mnemonic I came up with to describe some netiquette guidelines, or how to behave online. As an IT administrator in a school, this is one topic I did spend time on educating both students and faculty. These guidelines have a strong cybersecurity slant because it was something I had to deal with on a daily basis.

Accessible Gaming - Website

Ethics - Artifact 3

The Accessible Gaming website was developed in EDTECH 502 and focused on two things I value highly: accessibility and gaming. Everyone should be able to share in the same fun activities many of us take for granted. The online charter school I used to work for had a large percentage of children with special needs. There was an even higher percentage of kids who enjoyed video games. I am reasonably sure the percentage approached 100% regarding that statistic!

3D Printing in the Classroom - Website

Ethics - Artifact 4

This is the final nonreactive website I created in EDTECH 502. At this point in the course I was starting to chafe against the limitations of basic html/css websites. Of course, there is a much higher ceiling than what I accomplished here but I knew there were more modern ways to build dynamic and reactive websites and was anxious to learn more about them. The content of this website is focused on the unique challenges 3D printing poses regarding intellectual property law and fair use.

CITI Training

Ethics - Artifact 5

The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) provides research ethics training to the research community. I completed this course as part of an independent study for EDTECH 596. The project was focused on assisting Dr. Hung with the development of a machine learning model that could predict at-risk BSU students. Unfortunately, delays in the approval of the project by the Institutional Review Board stymied the progress of the study. I hope to work on the project in the fall.
